MSUM Men Hit the Road to Face Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team (5-13, 3-9 NSIC) will travel to take on University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University.

The Dragons will travel to take on Minnesota Duluth, Friday at 8 p.m., before facing St. Cloud State, Saturday at 6 p.m.

LOOKING BACK...
MSUM split a pair of NSIC games last weekend after falling to Augustana (95-85) before defeating Wayne State, 90-66, to snap its losing streak.

In the Dragons loss to the Vikings, Tanner Kretchman scored a season-high 25 points, while junior guard Travaun Coad recorded a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Britton Bussman and Addison Park each had three assists for the Dragons. In MSUM's victory over WSC, Coad recorded his fourth straight double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kretchman added 25 more points on the weekend, while sophomore guard had 21 points. As a team, the Dragons shot a season-best 57.6 percent (34-of-59) from the field.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION...
University of Minnesota Duluth

The Bulldogs are 8-9, 4-7 NSIC so far this season. UMD split its last pair of NSIC games, falling to Upper Iowa, 71-52, before defeating Upper Iowa, 72-69. Most recently, the Bulldogs picked up a nonconference win over Wisconsin-Superior (74-68). They are led by Brandon Myer, who is averaging 20.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Logan Rohrscheib has 13.0 points per game, while Sean Burns enters the weekend averaging 4.7 rebounds per game. Trevor Entwisle leads with 3.6 assists per game. As a team, Minnesota Duluth hold the third-best free throw percentage in the NSIC at 76.8 percent (261-of-340). Matt Bowen is in his sixth season as head coach of the Bulldogs, with a record of 55-87.

St. Cloud State University
The Huskies enter the weekend 11-6 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC. They are coming off a weekend where they fell to both Upper Iowa (84-74) and Winona State (102-100). The Huskies are led by Jon Averkamp, who is averaging 20.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Gage Davis is right on pace, averaging 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Adam Heede-Andersen leads the team with 3.8 assists per game, while Sean Smith leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per game. Smith is second in the NSIC in rebounding, while Averkamp holds an NSIC-best three-point field goal percentage of 60.5 (17-of-23). Matt Reimer is in his fourth season as head coach of the Huskies with a record of 50-42.

Kretchman Breaks Records

Senior Tanner Kretchman became the all-time career assist leader earlier this season in MSUM's victory over Northern Michigan. Kretchman now has 526 career assists. For the first time in the school's history Kretchman has posted back-to-back seasons with at least 200 assists. In MSUM's loss to Northern State he became the first MSUM player to reach 500 assists. Kretchman is also tenth all-time in scoring with 1,444 points and is now second in career three-point field goals made with 233. The senior is also second-best in the NSIC this season in three-point field goals made, averaging 2.8 per game.

Coad Hits 4 Double-Doubles
Junior guard Travaun Coad recorded two more double-doubles in MSUM's games against Augustana and Wayne State to make it four straight double-doubles. The junior guard became the first Dragon to earn a double-double in four consecutive games since Alex Novak, Feb. 16-27, 2013. Coad leads the Dragons in double-doubles this season.

Park Prevails
Junior Addison Park has been steady player for the Dragons to rely on this season. Park has scored in double-digits nine of the last 12 games, including a career-high of 21 points at Northern State. The junior is averaging 4.5 rebound per game and also holds a team-best in blocks with 12. Park leads the Dragons in field goal percentage with .699 (88-of-147), ranking tenth in the NSIC.

Sophomores Shine
With only one senior on the team this year some younger players stepped up to take a bigger role on the team. The Dragons starting lineup includes sophomores Johnny Beeninga and Matt Anderson. Beeninga scored a career-high 26 points in the Dragons win at U-Mary. He is second on the team, averaging 14.2 points per game and adds 40 assists. Anderson is averaging 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, including a season-high of nine rebounds at Concordia-St. Paul. He also adds five blocks and three steals.

Offensive Distribution
The Dragons have gotten some great offensive distribution this season with four players averaging at least 11.0 points per game. Tanner Kretchman (16.0), Johnny Beeninga (14.2) , Travaun Coad (12.4),  and Addison Park (11.4).

All-Time vs. Opponents
MSUM will meet Minnesota Duluth for the 122nd time with the Bulldogs leading  the series, 79-42. The Dragons and the Huskies are meeting for the 128th time with St.  Cloud State leading the series 81-47.

The Dragons will return home next weekend to host Southwest Minnesota State, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. and Sioux Falls, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.
