MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead swim and dive team will host Minnesota State, Mankato in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Alex Nemzek Hall. The dual begins at 1 p.m.
The Dragons are 6-4 in duals while the Mavericks are 5-1.
The Dragons are 2-2 in the last four duals with Minnesota State, including a 160-137 win in the 2015-16 season.
"We've really developed a healthy rivalry with Mankato over the past five years and you can trace it back to our first dual meet win against them in the 2012-2013 season," MSUM head coach
Todd Peters said. "Mankato came to our pool a heavy favorite to win that year and then freshmen, Jackie Woods, was the catalyst in a come from behind win to shock the Mavericks. Once our team realized Mankato was beatable, we started going into every meet with the mentality we could beat them. I think that has helped both of our teams. This Saturday's meet is no different with visiting Mankato the definite favorite to win."
The meet will also be a good test for the Dragon divers as MSU is one of three NSIC teams to field a diving program.
"Both teams realize the meet will likely be decided on the diving boards with six relatively equal divers from each team vying for the top spots," Peters said. "If one team wins both diving events, they will likely win the meet. This is going to be an exciting meet and everyone is looking forward to it."
