MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team is now 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Last week, the Dragons faced No. 16 Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) and dropped both matches 3-0. The Dragons return to Nemzek Fieldhouse for their final home matches against St. Cloud State on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 8 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 4 p.m.

St. Cloud State
The Huskies are 12-10 overall and 8-8 in the NSIC. Last week, SCSU dropped matches to Concordia-St. Paul (3-1) and Minnesota State (3-2). As the team, the Huskies average 1.3 aces per set compared to 1.0 from their opponents. The also hold a slight edge in digs per set with 17.9 compared to 17.3 from the opposition. Linsey Rachel paces the offense with 310 kills (3.85 kills per set). Abbey Templin provides 2.57 kills per set, while Krista Kuglin and Erin Navratil each average over 2.00 kills per set. Maddy Torve runs the offense and has 840 assists on the year (10.37 assists per set). With 5.22 digs per set, Clara Krenz leads both her team and the NSIC. Taylor Olstad and Linsey Rachel each contribute over 3.00 digs per set. Marah Mulso leads the team with 58 total blocks (.75 blocks per set). The Dragons earned a 3-1 victory when the teams met on Sept. 22.

No. 8 Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs are 20-5 overall and 13-3 in the NSIC. Last week, UMD went 1-1 with a 3-0 victory over Minnesota State and a 3-1 loss to No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul. UMD is hitting .265 on the year and holds the opposition to a .148 hitting percentage. They average 15.7 digs per set compared to 12.1 from their opponents. Sarah Kelly averages 3.36 kills per set, and Makenzie Morgen averages 3.19 k/s. Three addition players average over 2.00 kills per set. Kelly's .390 hitting percentage ranks fifth in the NSIC. Emily Torve has 1003 assists this season and her 12.54 assists per set ranks third in the NSIC. Abby Thor leads her team with 83 total blocks (1.04 blocks per set) and sits sixth in the NSIC. With 4.39 digs per set, Keena Seiffert leads the team and ranks ninth in the conference. The Dragons fell 3-1 when the teams met on Sept. 21.

Vega Keeps Digging
Senior libero
Monica Vega has 1,756 career digs and is averaging 5.0 digs per set. In Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action, she has averaged 5.11 digs per set which ranks third in the conference. She needs 52 digs to surpass Emily Hegg's 1,807 digs from 1994-1997. With four regular-season matches left, Vega needs to average over 12.57 digs per match to move into third place.

Outside hitter
Amanda Carlson continues to carry a major role in NSIC play. Last week, Carlson led the team in kills with 11 against Southwest Minnesota State.
Madison Wassink was the kill leader in the match against Sioux Falls (S.D.) where she had seven. Wassink averages 1.81 kills per set, while Carlson leads the team with 2.92 kills per set.
Katelyn Selensky has been a versatile athlete this season, and she averages 3.03 assists per set to go along with her 1.96 digs per set average. Selensky is third on the team in blocks per set with .49. Outside hitter
Lexi Gilbertson has worked her way into a starting position throughout the season and adds to the depth from the freshman group.

Strength in Blocking
The Dragons continue to out-block their opponents and hold a 2.11 to 1.69 blocks per set edge. In conference action, the team is averaging 2.21 blocks per set. MSUM ranks fourth in the conference in blocks per set. Sophomore
Kylie Kanwischer averages 1.02 blocks per set and sits fifth in the NSIC. Right on her heels is junior
Kaylyn Jenkins who averages 1.01 blocks per set—good for seventh in the NSIC.

On the Road Again
MSUM wraps up the regular season on the road as they travel to face Bemidji State on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
