HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team dropped a 59-48 decision on the road at Michigan Tech in nonconference action Friday in Houghton, Mich.
MSUM fell to 2-1 on the season while Michigan Tech improved to 3-0.
Senior guard
Jacky Volkert had 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists for MSUM while junior forward
Megan Hintz had 10 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Brookyn Liegel had eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
MSUM shot 30.5 percent (18-of-59) for the game, compared to 34.5 percent (19-of-55) for the Huskies. For the third straight game the Dragons had a commanding edge in rebounds, this time 48-32, including 17-8 on the offensive glass.
MSUM shot just 7.1 percent (1-of-14) in the first quarter and trailed 16-8. After trailing 19-8, MSUM warmed up in the second, hitting 6-of-10 shots (60 percent) to cut the lead to 26-22 at halftime . Hintz keyed a 12-4 run with six points as the Dragons cut the lead to 23-20.
Michigan Tech pushed the lead to 12 in the third quarter but the Dragons fought back to within 48-45 with 4:09 left in the game after a Volkert basket. They got no closer as the Huskies outscored MSUM 11-3 the rest of the way.

Peyton Boom had seven rebounds for MSUM.
MSUM will face Northern Michigan at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Marquette, Mich.
