The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team is on the road again this weekend to compete at the Holiday Inn Denver Cherry Creek Classic to be hosted by Metro State (Colo.) in Denver, Colo. MSUM will face Metro State at 6 p.m. Central time on Friday and then face Colorado Christian at 3 p.m. Central time on Saturday.
MSUM is 2-2 on the non conference season.
MSUM dropped a pair of games on the road last weekend. The Dragons lost to Michigan Tech, 59-48 and Northern Michigan, 61-54. Junior forward
Megan Hintz averaged 9.0 points and 10 rebounds per game while freshman guard
Natalie Steichen averaged 9.5 and scored a career high 17 points against Northern Michigan.
Hintz averages 13.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game for MSUM to lead the Dragons in both categories. Sophomore guard
Kiley Borowicz averages 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Junior forward
Madi Green averages 4.5 rebounds per game while senior guard
Jacky Volkert averages 3.1 assists per game.
As a team MSUM scores 58.2 points per game and shoots 36 percent from the field. The Dragons outrebound their foes 44.0-34.2 and allow 56.5 points per game.
Karla Nelson is in her 19th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 327-190 at the school.
About Metro State (Colo.)
Metro State is 0-3 on the season. Metro suffered a 66-63 loss to No. 7 West Texas A&M on Nov. 17. Two of the Roadrunners' losses are to teams ranked in the top 10 in the WBCA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll.
Senior Emily Hartegan averages 17.3 points per game for Metro while senior Jonalyn Wittwer averages 12.3. Senior guard Jaelynn Smith averages 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and also leads at 6.0 assists per game.
Metro State is shooting 45.1 percent from the field and scoring 60.7 points per game. On defense the Roadrunners allow 70.0 points. They have a slight 30.0-28.7 edge in rebounds.
Tanya Haave is in her ninth season as the Metro State head coach with a record of 158-83.
About Colorado Christian
The Cougars are 2-2 on the season. They went 1-1 at the Westminster College tournament, beating Texas A&M International 73-66 after falling to No. 24 Northwest Nazarene 80-75 on Nov. 16.
Senior forward Jordan Baer averages 21.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Sarah McGinley averages 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Olivia Christy averages 10.5 points per game while junior guard Marie Tsoungui leads at 3.3 assists per game.
The Cougars score 74.3 points per game and shoot 44.6 percent from the field. They are being out rebounded 45.0-40.0 and allow 72.5 points per game.
Corey Laster is in his third season as the CCU head coach with a record of 20-48 at the school.
