DENVER, Colo. – A stout defensive effort helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team earn a 62-41 win over Metro State (Colo.) in action Friday at the Cherry Creek Holiday Inn Classic in Denver, Colo.
MSUM is now 3-2 while Metro State fell to 0-4.
The Dragons surrendered a season-low 41 points and held the Roadrunners to 30.8 percent shooting (16-of-52). They held Metro to just 17 first-half points.
Junior forward
Megan Hintz had 12 points and nine rebounds for MSUM while sophomore guard
Kiley Borowicz had 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Redshirt freshman forward
Peyton Boom had a career-high 12 points to go with eight rebounds and two blocks. Senior guard
Jacky Volkert led with five assists to go along with eight points.
MSUM outrebounded the Roadrunners 47-35, including 15-11 on the offensive glass.
MSUM led by as many as 11 in the first half, including 21-10, before Metro State cut the gap to 21-17 by halftime. Boom led with six points and five boards in the first half.
Metro State took the lead for 14 seconds at 22-21 in the third after a Mikayla Gonzales basket but MSUM outscored the Roadrunners 26-10 over the final nine minutes of the quarter to build a 47-31 lead after three quarters. Hintz, Volkert and Boom each had six points in the third quarter for MSUM. The Dragons pushed the lead as many as 23 on their way to the convincing win.

Madi Green had four rebounds for MSUM.
The Dragons will face Colorado Christian at 3 p.m. Central time on Saturday in Denver to wrap up the weekend.
