MSUM dominated Minnesota Morris 95-44 in an exhibition game on Nov. 2 in Moorhead.

The Dragons were 23-6 last season and won their second straight NSIC regular season title. They also qualified for their second straight NCAA tournament, their fifth in head coach Karla Nelson's tenure.

MSUM will have to replace 1,000-point scorers Drew Sannes and Cassidy Thorson but returns an experienced nucleus led by senior guard Jacky Volkert, who was an All-NSIC First Team selection last season. Volkert averaged 13.4 points, 5.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game and set a single-season record with 156 assists.

Also returning is junior forward Megan Hintz, who averaged 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season and led the team with a 57.1 percent field goal percentage.  Sophomore guard Lauren Fech started all 29 games at point guard last season and had 74 assists. Also returning with experience are junior forwards Madi Green and Grace Swenson and sophomore guards Kiley Borowicz and Brooklyn Liegel.

Karla Nelson is in her 19th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 325-188 at the school.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION...
Arkansas Tech

Arkansas Tech opens the 2018-19 season against the Dragons. The Golden Suns were 26-4 last season and qualified for the NCAA tournament, losing to Northern State in the first round. Arkansas Tech has been to four straight NCAA tournaments and was picked to finish second in the GAC preseason coaches poll.

Arkansas Tech returns seven players from last year, led by Jayana Sanders, who was a GAC Second-Team selection a year ago after averaging 12.3 points and 1.8 assists a game. Senior Lyrik Williams was GAC honorable mention last season while averaging 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse averaged 11.0 points per game last season.

Dave Wilbers is in his 12th season as the Arkansas Tech head coach with a record of 266-66.
