MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team placed four players in double figures in a 76-68 win over UMary in action Friday night at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn. The game was the home opener for the Dragons, who have won six straight.
MSUM is now 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Mary fell to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Kiley Borowicz led the Dragons with 19 points, while senior guard
Jacky Volkert had 15 points. Junior forward
Megan Hintz and redshirt freshman forward
Peyton Boom each had 12 points.

Brooklyn Liegel had two assists each.
MSUM's big advantage came at the foul line, where the Dragons hit 21-of-25 attempts (84 percent) compared to 6-of-12 (50 percent) for the Marauders. MSUM had a 37-34 edge in rebounds. MSUM also forced 19 Marauder turnovers which led to a 24-8 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Dragons led for almost the whole game, including by nine at halftime, 39-30. Volkert had nine first-half points while Hintz had eight.
Baskets by Borowicz and Hintz pushed the lead to 62-47 with 8:20 left in the game. The Marauders cut the lead to five on a pair of occasions in the final minutes but the Dragons weathered the storm, thanks to clutch free throw shooting. Volkert was 6-of-6 from the line in the final 47 seconds.
MSUM concludes the weekend by hosting Minot State at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
