The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team continues on the road with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games at Minnesota Crookston (Friday, 5:30 p.m.) and Bemidji State (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.).
MSUM will face Minnesota Crookston for a 44th time and leads the all-time series 35-8. The two teams split in 2017-18. The Dragons will meet Bemidji State for a 109th time and hold a 69-39 series lead. MSUM swept BSU last season.
The Dragons are 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC.
MSUM opened NSIC play on Dec. 1 with a 47-39 win at Northern State. Sophomore guard
Kiley Borowicz had 12 points and five steals while senior guard
Jacky Volkert had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Borowicz averages 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and also leads with 15 steals. Junior
Megan Hintz averages 12.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while Volkert is at 8.3 and leads at 4.0 assists per game.
As a team MSUM scores 59.4 points per game and shoots 37.8 percent from the field. The Dragons outrebound their foes 42.9-33.6 and allow 52.4 points per game.
Karla Nelson is in her 19th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 330-190 at the school. Nelson is the second-longest tenured head coach in the NSIC.
About Minnesota Crookston
The Golden Eagles are 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. They opened conference play with a 70-61 win over Bemidji State on Dec. 1. The Golden Eagles opened the season on a five-game winning streak before losing to Western Washington on Nov. 24.
Isieoma Odor, a three-time NSIC North Player of the Week, averages 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game to lead UMC. Caitlin Michaelis is at 16.7 ppg while Kylie Post is 12.6 and Abby Guidinger 10.9. Post averages 2.9 assists per game. As at team UMC scores 72.7 points per game and shoots 42.2 percent from the field. On defense the Golden Eagles allow 66.3 points per game.
Mike Roysland is in his 13th season as the UMC head coach with a record of 118-214 at the school.
About Bemidji State
Bemidji State is 2-3 and 0-1 in the NSIC on the season after losing to Minnesota Crookston, 70-61 on Dec. 1. The Beavers have lost three games in a row.
Maria Appicelli leads at 14.8 points per game while Gabby Dubois averages 10.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Emma Rappe is averaging 9.3 points per game. The Beavers score 66.6 points per game and allow 63.0. They are being out rebounded by. 37.4-36.0.
Chelsea DeVille is in her fourth season as the BSU head coach with a record of 20-66 at the school.

On the Road Again
MSUM's opening eight games are all away from home, including the games at Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State this weekend. The Dragons' travels have taken them to five states (Michigan, Missouri, Colorado, Minnesota and South Dakota).
Double-Doubles for Hintz
Junior forward
Megan Hintz opened the season with back-to-back double-doubles in the Dragons' wins at the Central Region Challenge. The Rochester, Minn., native had 16 points and 13 rebounds per game in the win over Arkansas Tech and had 19 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Pittsburg State. Hintz now has eight career double-doubles and is averaging a double-double this season (12.0 points, 10.1 rebounds per game)
Volkert Closing in on Milestones
Senior guard
Jacky Volkert is closing in on a pair of milestones. She is at 970 career points, just 30 away from the 1,000-point milestone. She is also at 381 career assists, fourth all-time in school history. The all-time career leader at MSUM is Krista Opheim who has 488.
Peyton's Place
Redshirt freshman forward
Peyton Boom has been a solid contributor off the bench for MSUM through six games. She had a career-high 12 points in the win over Metro State on Nov. 23 to go along with eight rebounds. She had a career-high nine rebounds in the win over Arkansas Tech. In five of the seven games she has played Boom has at least six rebounds, and is also shooting a team-best 63.3 percent from the field.

The Dragon women's basketball program has never had a losing season since
Karla Nelson took over in 2000. That included a 23-6 mark last season which is the sixth time MSUM has surpassed 20 wins in Nelson's tenure. MSUM is 330-190 in Nelson's tenure with five NCAA tournament trips.
