MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team lost a 28-9 match to the Division III's No. 1-ranked team, the Augsburg Auggies on Thursday night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. The Dragons picked up three wins on the night.
"We gave a good effort," MSUM head coach
Kris Nelson said. "We wrestled a tough team who has proven that they can hang with the best in the country but we came out and wrestled real well."
The dual started at 174 pounds where senior
Adam Blees won a 6-4 decision in overtime.
"Adam got things going," Nelson said. "He wrestled a good match and it was nice to see him get a win."
After Augsburg took the next two matches sophomore
Sam Erckenbrack picked up a 4-2 win at 285 over Ethan Hofacker to put MSUM within one point.
The Dragons took the lead at 125-pounds when sophomore
Cole Jones used a late flurry of action to win an 8-1 decision over No. 6 Victor Gliva. Augsburg would go on to sweep the remaining matches including a forfeit at 149-pounds to take the 28-9 win.
MSUM will be back in action on Dec. 15 when they travel to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic.
