Dragon Men Drop Final Road Game of Regular Season to UMC, 89-73

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team dropped a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest to University of Minnesota Crookston, 89-73, Saturday night. Johnny Beeninga and Addison Park both scored career highs on the night.

The Dragons fell to 6-20 overall and 4-16 in NSIC play, while the Golden Eagles improved to 10-16, 7-13 NSIC.

Sophomore guard Johnny Beeninga scored career-high 28 points and added two assists. Junior Forward Addison Park also set a new career high of 25 points and also had five rebounds for the Dragons. Junior guard Travaun Coad had seven points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Tanner Kretchman had seven points and seven rebounds.

MSUM shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field compared to Minnesota Crookston at 47.9 percent (34-of-71). The Dragons and Golden Eagles were even with 35 rebounds, each.

UMC got off to an early 13-6 lead when a 3-pointer from Kretchman started a 9-0 run to give the Dragons a slight lead. The teams would go back-and-forth until they would reach a 32-32 tie with five minutes to play. MSUM would outscore the Golden Eagles 13-9 for the remainder of the half to lead 45-41 going into halftime.

Park scored 19 first half points for the Dragons, while Beeninga added 17.

The Dragons maintained their lead for the first few minutes of the second half before UMC quickly caught up to tie the game, 54-54 at the 14:58 mark. From there, the Golden Eagles led for the remainder of the game, earning an 89-73 NSIC win over MSUM.

Matt Anderson had six points and three rebounds off the bench for MSUM.

The Dragons will return home to host its final pair of games for the 2017-18 regular season. MSUM will host St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth, Feb. 16-17.
