CROOKSTON, Minn. – Four Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball players scored in double figures in a 71-56 win over Minnesota Crookston Saturday in Crookston, Minn. It was the 15th win in a row for MSUM, matching the second-longest winning streak in school history.
MSUM is 21-3 overall and 18-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. UMC fell to 6-18 overall and 6-14 in the league.
Senior
Cassidy Thorson led MSUM with 19 points; she is now four points away from 1,000 for her career. Senior forward
Drew Sannes had her second double-double of the weekend with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard
Jacky Volkert added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sophomore forward
Megan Hintz had 11 points.
MSUM shot 46.2 percent (24-of-56) from the field while holding the Golden Eagles to 37.1 percent (23-of-62). The Dragons had a 42-30 edge in rebounds.
For the second straight game, the Dragons never trailed. They led 18-11 after one quarter and by halftime had pushed the lead to 34-19. Thorson was the catalyst in the first half with 13 points while Hintz had eight.
The Dragons pushed the lead to 23 in the third quarter on their way to the 15-point win.
Sophomore guard
Kourtney Selensky had seven points off the bench for MSUM.
The Dragons return home to host St. Cloud State on Feb. 16.
Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Tonight's 15th straight win tied the program record for second longest winning streak all-time with the mark set last year. The longest win streak is 16 set by Dr. Lori Ulfert's squad in the 1991/1992 campaign.
