Dragon Men Wrap Up 2017-18 Road Schedule at Beavers and Golden Eagles

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team (6-18, 4-14 NSIC) remains on the road this weekend as it travels to take on Bemidji State University and University of Minnesota Crookston.

THIS WEEKEND...
The Dragons play their final road games of the regular season as they take on Bemidji State, Friday at 8 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston, Saturday at 6 p.m.

LOOKING BACK...
MSUM dropped a pair of road games last weekend, falling to Winona State (93-78) and Upper Iowa (91-78).

In the Dragons' loss to the Warriors, Tanner Kretchman led with 21 points and four assists, while Travaun Coad and Johnny Beeninga each had 13 points.  Coad led with nine rebounds on the night.

Against Upper Iowa, Addison Park scored career-high 22 points and also added season-high nine rebounds. Kretchman had 17 points and six rebounds, while Coad recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION...
Bemidji State University
The Beavers are 10-13 overall and 7-11 in the NSIC after splitting a pair of NSIC games last weekend. BSU defeated Wayne State, 91-70 before falling to Augustana, 92-66. Sharif Black leads the Beavers with 15.4 points per game, while Logan Bader is leading with 5.8 rebounds per game. Jai'Vionne Green is averaging 13.2 points per game, while Christian Pekarek is leading with 4.1 assists per game. As a team, Bemidji State is third in the NSIC in 3-point field goals made, averaging 8.7 per game. The Beavers are being outscored by their opponents, 74.4-72.8. Mike Boschee is in his sixth season as head coach of the Beavers with a record of 65-75.

University of Minnesota Crookston
The Golden Eagles are 9-15 on the season, with a 6-12 conference mark. Last weekend UMC defeated Augustana, 70-60 before falling to Wayne State, 85-74. The top scorer for the Golden Eagles is Harrison Cleary, who is averaging 24.8 points per game, along with 3.9 assists per game. Clearly is currently leading the NSIC in scoring as well as free throw percentage with 95.3 percent (122-of-128). Alan Hodge Jr. is averaging 14.7 points per game, while Ben Juhl is averaging 10.8 points. Gable Smith is the top rebounder with 7.0 rebounds per game. UMC is averaging 76.2 points per game, while its opponents are averaging 74.2 points. The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Dan Weisse, who is in his fourth season.

Kretchman Breaks Records

Senior Tanner Kretchman became the all-time career assist leader earlier this season in MSUM's victory over Northern Michigan. Kretchman now has 540 career assists. For the first time in the school's history Kretchman has posted back-to-back seasons with at least 200 assists. In MSUM's loss to Northern State he became the first MSUM player to reach 500 assists. Kretchman is also seventh all-time in scoring with 1,535 points and is now second in career three-point field goals made with 250. The senior is also second-best in the NSIC this season in three-point field goals made, averaging 2.8 per game.

Coad Hits 8th Double-Double
Junior guard Travaun Coad hit his eighth double-double of the season against Upper Iowa, Feb. 3 with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The junior guard became the first Dragon to earn a double-double in four or more consecutive games since Alex Novak (Feb. 16-27, 2013) when he had five in a row Jan. 5-19. Coad leads the Dragons in double-doubles this season.

Consistency From Park
Junior Addison Park has been a steady player for the Dragons to rely on this season. Park has scored in double-digits in 15 games this season, including a career-high of 22 points at Upper Iowa. The junior is averaging 4.6 rebound per game and also holds a team-best in blocks with 14. Park leads the Dragons in field goal percentage with .572 (115-of-202), ranking tenth in the NSIC.

Sophomores Shine
With only one senior on the team this year some younger players stepped up to take a bigger role on the team. The Dragons starting lineup includes sophomores Johnny Beeninga and Matt Anderson. Beeninga scored a career-high 26 points in the Dragons win at U-Mary. He is second on the team, averaging 13.8 points per game and adds 54 assists. Anderson is averaging 5.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, including a season-high of nine rebounds at Concordia-St. Paul. He also adds six blocks and four steals.

Offensive Distribution
The Dragons have gotten some great offensive distribution this season with four players averaging at least 11.0 points per game. Tanner Kretchman (15.8), Johnny Beeninga (13.8) , Travaun Coad (13.8),  and Addison Park (11.5).

All-Time vs. Opponents
MSUM will meet Bemidji State for the 183rd time with the Dragons leading  the series, 98-84. When the teams met previously this season, the Beavers edged MSUM, 82-81.

The Dragons and the Golden Eagles are meeting for the 45th time with MSUM leading the series 35-9. Earlier this season MSUM defeated Minnesota Crookston, 81-78.

The Dragons return home to host St. Cloud State, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. and Minnesota Duluth, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. for the final series of the regular season.
