MSUM Football Falls on Road to No. 24 Bulldogs

DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead football team dropped a 60-7 decision to No. 24-ranked Minnesota Duluth in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday night in Duluth, Minn.

MSUM fell to 1-1 overall and in the league while UMD improved to 2-0.

The Dragons managed just 58 rushing yards compared to 222 for UMD. They were outgained 580-194.

Sophomore running back Ty Jochim rushed for 63 yards on 10 carries for MSUM. Sophomore quarterback Jakup Sinani was 10-of-20 passing for 103 yards and a touchdown. Bryce Meehl was 3-of-5 passing for 33 yards. Sophomore receiver Jake Richter caught four passes for 77 yards and a score while freshman receiver Trent Marquart had four catches for 54 yards.

Junior cornerback Deiondre Taylor had 11 tackles and a pass breakup for MSUM. Senior defensive back Aaron Doan, sophomore defensive back Shad Vedaa and senior linebacker Casey Paskey all had six tackles.

After not turning the ball over in the opening win over UMC, the Dragons had three on Saturday. A field goal attempt was also blocked.

MSUM returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 against Northern State. Game time is 3 p.m. at Scheels Field in Moorhead.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The last Dragon win versus the Bulldogs was a 20-14 road decision on Oct. 2, 1999. The last time the Dragons won on Sept. 8 was a 21-7 home win versus Mayville State in 2007. The last road win on this date was a 13-10 victory at Concordia College (Minn.) on Sept. 8, 1979.
