Green's First Double-Double Helps MSUM Women Extend Win Streak to 12 Games, 78-65

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Junior forward Madi Green recorded her first career double-double to help the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team win its 12th straight game with a 78-65 win over Minnesota Crookston Saturday at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM is 14-2 overall and 10-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Minnesota Crookston fell to 9-7 overall and 4-6 in the league. The Dragons lead Minnesota Duluth and Augustana by two games in the NSIC race.

Green finished with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds and was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. She also added a career-high four blocks.

Redshirt freshman forward Peyton Boom had a career-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.  Senior guard Jacky Volkert had 15 points and three assists while sophomore guard Lauren Fech had 14 points, tying a career-high.

The game was tied at 56-56 going into the fourth quarter but MSUM took control in the final frame, outscoring the Golden Eagles 22-9, thanks to 8-of-12 shooting (66.7 percent) from the field. Volkert had eight fourth-quarter points while Green had five and Fech had four.

MSUM led 41-37 at halftime with Green and Boom each accounting for eight points.

The Golden Eagles led briefly late in the third on a three-pointer by Kylea Praska but Boom answered with a three before the buzzer to tie the game at 56-56. In the fourth, MSUM led by as many as 16.

Sophomore guard Brooklyn Liegel had seven points and three assists off the bench for MSUM.

MSUM continues the homestand on Friday, Jan. 18 vs. Wayne State. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The Dragons have now swept Minnesota Crookston 13 of the 20 times that the two teams have played a two-game regular season, and own a 33-7 record, dating back to the Golden Eagles joining the league.
