MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball game had
their winning streak snapped in an 87-82 loss to Augustana University (S.D.) on Saturday night
in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.
MSUM falls to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the NSIC while Augustana improves to 12-6 overall and 8-
4 in the NSIC.
Senior forward
Addison Park had 16 points on the night and in doing so reached 1,004 career
points—Park is the 32nd Dragon to reach 1,000 career points. Senior guard
Travaun Coad and
freshman guard
Bryce Irsfeld led the team with 17 points each. Junior guard
Johnny Beeninga
and freshman guard
Gavin Baumgartner each contributed 11 points. Park led the team with
seven rebounds, while Irsfeld and Baumgartner each had five. Baumgartner led the team with
seven assists.
MSUM shot 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the field compared to 42.9 percent (27-of-63) for the
Vikings. Augustana outrebounded MSUM 42-38.
MSUM took an early 10-7 lead off an Irsfeld three pointer at the 14:24 mark. The Dragons went
on a seven-point run to bring their lead to 17-10 with 11:49 on the clock. The Vikings held the
lead over the next few minutes, but a three from senior guard
Jake Johnson tied things up at
24-24 with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Augustana would use a nine-point run
to take a 33-24 lead into the halftime break.
The Vikings saw their largest lead of the night before a Baumgartner three cut their lead to 61-
51 with 10:14 on the clock in the second half. MSUM continued to chip away at the lead and
pulled within five at 71-66 with 4:35 to go off a layup from Irsfeld. Irsfeld sunk a free-throw with
2:18 remaining to cut the Viking lead to 75-73. Baumgartner nailed a three-pointer with 25 seconds
remaining to bring the Dragons within one, as the Vikings led 81-80. Six made free-throws from
Augustana in the final 23 seconds allowed for the Vikings to pull away with an 87-82 victory.
MSUM is back in action next week as they travel to face Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 25 at 7:30
p.m. and St. Cloud State on Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
