MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team (9-5, 3-3 NSIC) will open the new year on the road against Winona State and Upper Iowa in Northern Sun Intercollegiate College action.

LOOKING BACK…
The Dragons remained in town this week, but had a change of scenery as they took over Concordia College's Memorial Auditorium. MSUM was facing Northern State for the second time this season and looked to redeem a 70-54 loss earlier this year.
The tables were turned on the Wolves, and MSUM earned a thrilling 71-69 win to close out 2018. The Dragons led for the majority of the game, and led by as much as 11 points. Senior forward

MSUM shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field while NSU shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55).
Northern State held a 37-23 rebound edge. The Dragons had 17 points off turnovers compared
to seven from Northern State.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION…
Winona State University
The Warriors are 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC after losing to Upper Iowa 82-76 in overtime on Dec. 30. Winona State averages 74.2 points per game compared to 68.6 points per game from the opposition. The Warriors average 6.8 steals per game compared to 4.2 from their opponents. Kevion Taylor leads the team by averaging 12.7 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game. Devin Whitelow is second on the team with 10.7 points per game and leads the team with 3.6 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game. Caleb Wagner averages 10.0 points per game and 3.4 assists per game. As a team, the Warriors rank second in the NSIC in free throw percentage (79.3).
Upper Iowa University
The Peacocks are 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the NSIC after the overtime win over Upper Iowa on Dec. 30. Upper Iowa averages 76.8 points per game compared to 82.4 points per game from their opponents. The Peacocks average 3.5 blocks per game compared to 2.5 from the opposition. Jareese Williams lead the team by averaging 14.9 pointsper game. Joe Smoldt is second on the team with 12.4 points per game and 3.6 assists per game. Munachiso Okonkwo is the leading rebounder with 5.7 per game and leads the team with 1.9 blocked shots per game. Kyle Haber averages 5.4 rebounds per game, 1.1 steals per game, and 10.8 points per game. The Peacocks lead the NSIC in three-point FG made with 11.5.
