Winning Streak Now at 10 as MSUM Women Defeat Peacocks, 58-46

FAYETTE, Iowa — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 10 games with a 58-46 win over Upper Iowa in action Saturday in Fayette, Iowa.

MSUM is now 12-2 overall and 8-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference; the Dragons lead UMary by one game in the season standings. Upper Iowa fell to 3-13 overall and 0-8 in the league.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Tonight's 10th straight win makes this the third straight season that the Dragons have had at least a double-digit win streak. The Dragons ripped off 16 in a row last season and 15 straight in 2016-17. It is the first time in school history MSUM has had winning streaks of at least 10 straight games in three straight seasons.


Senior guard Jacky Volkert had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead the Dragons. Junior forward Megan Hintz had her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. She now has 12 for her career.  Junior forward Madi Green had 10 points and nine rebounds.

MSUM held Upper Iowa to 29.1 percent shooting (16-of-55) and had a 46-33 edge in rebounds.

The Dragons led by as many as 11 in the first quarter but Upper Iowa closed the gap to 26-22 by halftime. Volkert had seven first-half points.

Upper Iowa was as close as three in the fourth quarter but the Dragons steadily pulled away late down the stretch to push the lead into double digits by the final horn.

Sophomore guard Brooklyn Liegel had five points and four rebounds off the bench for MSUM.

MSUM begins a four-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 11 vs. Bemidji State (5:30 p.m. tipoff).
