Brownell's Goal Lifts MSUM Women's Soccer Past Wildcats, 1-0

WAYNE, Neb. --- Senior defender Lindsey Brownell's goal in the 76th minute was the game winner as the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over Wayne State Friday afternoon in Wayne, Neb.

MSUM is now 4-3-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the win while Wayne State fell to 5-4-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the league.

"It was a wonderful team win," MSUM head coach Christie Kopietz said. "It was a focused, 90-minute performance."

The score was deadlocked at 0-0 for much of the game until Brownell scored her first goal of the season with an assist from freshman forward Mckenzie Ickert at the 75:39 mark. The Dragons made that lead stand in the one-goal victory.

Wayne State outshot the Dragons 14-3.  Sophomore goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek had seven saves for MSUM for her fourth shutout of 2019.

Brownell, sophomore defender Jennifer Barnes and sophomore sophomore Jax Wetteland had shots on goal for MSUM.

MSUM will play at Augustana on Sunday.  Game time is 1 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
