Dragon Football Falls to Augustana, 48-3

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead football team fell to Augustana, 48-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in Moorhead.
 
MSUM fell to 3-4 overall while Augustana improved to 5-2. The loss ended a two-game winning streak against the Vikings for MSUM.
 
It was a tough day for the Dragons, who were outgained 484-217, including 266-102 through the air. MSUM was intercepted three times.
 
Junior running back Ty Jochim rushed for 101 yards on 21 carries and became the first 100-yard rusher for the Dragons this season. Junior receiver Jake Richter had two catches for 37 yards.
 
Sophomore linebacker James Eggert had eight tackles, including 1.5 for loss, to lead the defense. Junior defensive lineman Hunter Sall had eight tackles. Junior Darius Woods-Steichen had 1.5 sacks.
 
Sophomore punter Blake Ochsendorf averaged 42.7 yards per punt with two inside the 20.
 
Bolstered by several big plays, the Vikings scored 21 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second to build a 42-3 halftime lead.  
 
Junior kicker Hobet Diaz had a 26-yard field goal to account for the Dragon points.
 
Senior cornerback Deiondre Taylor had seven tackles and a pass breakup. Junior defensive lineman Jordan Magnuson added a sack.
 
MSUM is at Southwest Minnesota State for a 1 p.m. game on Oct. 26.
 
Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Today's loss ends the Dragons' two-game winning streak over Augustana. Only perennial top dogs Minnesota State Mankato and Minnesota Duluth have current multiple game win streaks over the Vikings.
