MSUM returns home for an Oct. 4 matchup at Nemzek Fieldhouse against Bemidji State at 6 p.m. The next day, the Dragons host Minnesota Crookston at 4 p.m. The Dragons are currently 5-7 and 0-4 in conference play. Both Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston are also winless in conference play heading into this weekend.
Last Week's Recap...
The Dragons are coming off a tough road trip against two ranked opponents. MSUM faced No. 19 ranked Sioux Falls on Sept. 27 and No. 9 ranked Southwest Minnesota State on Sept. 28. The Dragons lost both games in three sets. Against Sioux Falls, sophomore hitter Amanda Carlson led MSUM in kills with 13, and also added six digs. Freshman hitter/defensive specialist Brooke Walthall led the way with nine digs, and freshman setter Amber Bretwisch led the Dragons in assists with 13. In the match against SMSU, Carlson led the Dragons in kills with eight. Sophomore middle blocker Layla Sanati-Zaker recorded a team high five blocks, Bretwisch led with 15 assists, and Walthall posted a career high 14 digs.
Scouting the Opposition...
Bemidji State
Bemidji State volleyball is currently 3-9 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. BSU is lead by senior Julie Touchett and sophomore Haley Stolt. Touchett has 114 kills and 29 total blocks on the year. In their match against No. 23 ranked Upper Iowa, Touchett led the Beavers with eight kills. Stolt currently has 119 kills this season along with 119 digs. Stolt led the Beavers in digs with 11 in the loss against Upper Iowa.
Minnesota Crookston
Minnesota Crookston volleyball is sitting at 2-10 this season and 0-4 in conference play. The Golden Eagles are led by sophomore Porsha Porath. Porath leads UMC with 140 kills this season. She also has 14 blocks on the season. In a loss against No. 23 ranked Upper Iowa, Porath led the way with seven kills and added nine digs. On the defensive side, junior Katie Lienemann leads the team with 141 digs this season. Lienemann recorded nine digs in the loss against Upper Iowa.

Last Week's Summary...

Performances...
In the loss to Sioux Falls, sophomore hitter Amanda Carlson led the Dragons with 13 kills and also added six digs. Sophomore Sarah Petrbok was second in kills with 8. Defensively, freshman Brooke Walthall led the way with nine digs, while Carlson and Petrbok both added six. Against SMSU, Carlson led with eight kills and also added two blocks and a service ace. Walthall led the team with a career high 14 digs. Petrbok had nine.
25th for Tammy
MSUM head coach Tammy Blake is the longest-tenured volleyball coach in the NSIC, in her 25th season. She has more wins than any head coach in MSUM history, and now is just six away from 400 for her career.
Looking Ahead...
Following the home games against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston, the Dragons head on the road again. They face St. Cloud State on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. The next day, MSUM heads to
Minnesota Duluth to take on the Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
