Dragon Volleyball to Conclude Season on the Road

MSUM goes on the road for their final games of the season. The Dragons take on Wayne State College on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. The next day, MSUM takes on Augustana at 5 p.m. The Dragons are currently 9-17 overall and 4-14 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. 
 
Last Week's Recap...
The Dragons are coming off two home losses, first to Sioux Falls on Nov. 8, followed by No. 18 ranked Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 9. MSUM lost to Sioux Falls in four sets and lost to SMSU in three. In the loss to Sioux Falls, sophomore hitter Teeya Doppler led the way offensively with 12 kills. Senior blocker Kaylyn Jenkins had 10 kills and sophomore blocker Elise Bakke had nine. Freshman setter Amber Bretwisch led the team in assists with 23 while sophomore setter Katelyn Selensky had 20. Defensively, sophomore libero Sarah Petrbok led with 13 digs and Selensky followed with seven. At the net, Jenkins, Doppler, and sophomore blocker Layla Sanati-Zaker all had two blocks each. In the loss to SMSU, Jenkins led the way with nine kills while Doppler had seven. Bretwisch and Selensky each led the team in assists with 10 each. Freshman Brooke Walthall led the way defensively with eight digs. At the net, Jenkins and Bakke each had two blocks while Selensky had one.
 
Scouting the Opposition...
Wayne State
Wayne State is currently 22-5 overall and 13-5 in the NSIC. The Wildcats are coming off two wins against Minot State and UMary. They won both matches in three sets. Wayne State is led by senior Tarrin Beller and freshman Kelsie Cada. Beller has 271 kills this season while Cada has 227. Defensively, senior Haley Kauth leads the way with 340 digs. Cada has 253. At the net, Beller leads with 119 blocks this season. In the win against UMary, Beller led the way offensively with 15 kills, while Cada had 10. At the net, Beller led with eight blocks. Kauth led the Wildcats in digs with 17.
 
Augustana
Augustana is currently 19-8 overall and 12-6 in the NSIC. The Vikings are coming off wins against both UMary and Minot State. Augustana beat UMary in three sets and Minot State in four sets. The Vikings are led by freshman Maddy Guetter and freshman Erika Bute. Guetter leads the offensive attack with 266 kills this season. On defense, Bute leads the Vikings in digs with 532. At the net, sophomore Abby Benson leads with 83 blocks. In the win over Minot State, sophomore Izzy Sommers and junior Payton Rosendahl led the way offensively with 13 kills each. Guetter followed with 11 kills and also had 11 digs.  Defensively, Bute led with 36 digs. The offense was run through sophomore setter Avery Thorson, who led with 47 set assists.
 
Last Week's Summary...

Jenkins leads the offense with 172 kills this season, followed by Petrbok with 166 and sophomore hitter Amanda Carlson with 161. Bretwisch leads the way in set assists with 473. Defensively, Petrbok leads with 262 digs. Jenkins leads at the net with 79 total blocks. 
 
Performances...
In the loss to Sioux Falls, Doppler led the way offensively with 12 kills. Jenkins had 10 kills and Bakke had nine. Bretwisch led the team in assists with 23 while Selensky had 20. Defensively, Petrbok led with 13 digs and Selensky followed with seven. At the net, Jenkins, Doppler, and Sanati-Zaker all had two blocks each. In the loss to SMSU, Jenkins led the way with nine kills while Doppler had seven. Bretwisch and Selensky each led the team in assists with 10 each. Freshman Brooke Walthall led the way defensively with eight digs. At the net, Jenkins and Bakke each had two blocks while Selensky had one.
 
Looking Ahead...
The road game against Augustana will mark the end of the volleyball season for the Dragons.
