The No. 18 Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team make its 2019-20 home debut this week by hosting the MSUM Classic. The event begins on Friday with MSUM hosting Metro State University-Denver at 6 p.m. with St. Cloud State facing Michigan Tech in the second game.
On Saturday, MSUM faces Michigan Tech at 4 p.m. while St. Cloud State faces MSU-Denver at 6 p.m.
MSUM fell to Michigan Tech on the road last year but rolled to a win over Metro State on the road.
The Dragons are 2-0 after beating No. 11 Central Missouri 58-56 on Nov. 8 and Rogers State, 98-41 on Nov. 9 at the Regional Challenge in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Dragons finished 11-1 at home last season.
Senior forward
Megan Hintz averaged 21.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game to lead the Dragons. Junior guard
Brooklyn Liegel averaged 10.5 points per game while junior guard
Sarah Jacobson added 5.5 assists per game. Junior forward
Madi Green averaged 5.5 rebounds per contest.
MSUM is outrebounding its opponents 47.5-29.5 and outscoring its foes 78.0-48.5.
Karla Nelson is in her 20th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 354-195 at the school.
About Metro State-Denver
Metro State, located in Denver, Colo., is off to an 0-2 start on the season. The Roadrunners lost to Texas A&M Commerce 69-51 and to defending national champs Lubbock Christian 70-60 to open the season in Pueblo, Colo.
Jaiden Galloway is averaging 11.0 points per game for Metro while Jaela Richardson and Bree Wellington average 9.5 points each. Richardson leads with 7.0 rebounds while Galloway has 2.5 assists. Â
Metro State is scoring 55.5 points per game and allowing 69.5.
MSU Denver was picked to finish fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the preseason coaches poll. Tanya Haave is in her 10th season at MSU-Denver with a record of 174-95.
