MOORHEAD, Minn.—With five players scoring in double figures, the Minnesota State University Moorhead Men's basketball team grabbed their first win of the season. The Dragons took down Dickinson State (N.D.) 86-71 in their home opener on Thursday night.
The Dragons are now 1-2 on the year while Dickinson State drops to 0-5.
Sophomore guard
Gavin Baumgartner led all scorers with 17 points. Sophomore guard
Bryce Irsfeld had 16 points for the Dragons, sophomore forward
Wyatt Hanson had 15, junior forward
Joe Sevlie scored 11, and sophomore guard
Siman Sem had 10. Sevlie, Baumgartner, Hanson, and Sem each led the Dragons on the glass with six rebounds each.
MSUM outshot Dickinson State, shooting 59 percent (36-of-61) from the field compared to 39.4 percent (28-of-71) for the Blue Hawks.
A Dickinson State jumper tied the game at 9-9 early in the first half. A two-pointer by Hanson opened up the lead, and the Dragons found themselves up 16-9. MSUM went into the half leading 40-32.
Five straight points for the Blue Jays cut MSUM's lead to just three. Dickinson State never got any closer, and the Dragons went on to win the game 86-71.
The Dragons look ahead to another nonconference matchup at home against Concordia-Moorhead on Nov. 19 at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
