SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team ended the 2019 season with a 25-13, 25-23, 26-28, 25-16 loss at Augustana Saturday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM finished the year 9-19 overall and 4-16 in the NSIC while Augustana improved to 20-9 overall and 13-7 in the NSIC.
Sophomore hitter
Amanda Carlson had 15 kills to lead MSUM while senior middle blocker
Kaylyn Jenkins had 11. Freshman setter
Amber Bretwisch had 22 assists while sophomore
Katelyn Selensky had 16. Sophomore libero
Sarah Petrbok had 16 digs while freshman
Brooke Walthall had 12 and Selensky 10.
The Dragons hit .164 for the match compared to .329 for Augustana, which is receiving votes in the latest AVCA D2 poll.
MSUM lost the first two sets but came back with a good third set. The Dragons were down 23-21 but scored three points in a row — which included a block by sophomore
Elise Bakke and Carlson — to take a 24-23 lead. Moments later, back-to-back kills from Selensky and Jenkins finished off a 28-26 MSUM win.
The Dragons couldn't carry the momentum into the fourth set however as the Vikings prevailed 25-16.
Jenkins was playing her final match as a Dragon. She hit .400 in the match and also had two block assists and two service aces.
