The No. 12 Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Thursday when it hosts rival Northern State. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM is 4-0 on the season.

The Dragons will meet the Wolves for an 80th time with Northern State leading 49-30. The Dragons have won three straight meetings in the series including two wins a year ago.

The Dragons went 2-0 at the MSUM Classic last weekend, rolling to a 72-46 win over MSU Denver on Friday and a 76-50 rout of Michigan Tech on Saturday. Senior forward Megan Hintz was named the MVP of the classic after recording back-to-back double-doubles while freshman guard Katie Tornstrom was named to the all-classic team.

Senior forward Megan Hintz averages 20 points and 8.8 rebounds per game to lead MSUM. She is shooting 66.7 percent from the field. Tornstrom averages 8.5 points per game while junior guard Sarah Jacobson averages 7.8, points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists a contest.

MSUM is outrebounding its opponents 49.0-27.8 and outscoring its foes 76.0-48.2.

Karla Nelson is in her 20th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 356-195 at the school.

About Northern State
The Wolves are 2-2 after splitting at home last weekend, beating Black Hills State 64-55 before losing to Emporia State 75-57.

Senior guards Brianna Kusler and Jessi Marti each average 11.8 points per game for Northern while sophomore Lexi Wadsworth averages 11.5.  Kusler averages 10.0 rebounds per game while Marti leads at 2.3 assists per game. Wadsworth also averages 7.0 rebounds per game.

Northern State scores 60.5 points per game and shoots 45.5 percent from the field. The Wolves allow 64.0 points per game and teams are shooting 38.4 percent from the field. The Wolves outrebound their foes 38.5-28.8.

Paula Krueger is in her second season as the Northern State head coach with a record of 12-21 at the school.

Up Next for MSUM...
After Thursday's conference game, MSUM ventures back into nonconference play with a trip to Hawaii on Nov. 27-29 to compete at the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic.

The Dragons will face Hawaii-Hilo on Nov. 27, Cal-State San Marcos on Nov. 28 and No. 6 UC San Diego on Nov. 29. All games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Central time.

Those will be the final nonconference games for MSUM as the remaining 21 games are NSIC contests.
