No. 12 Dragon Women Open Three-Game Hawaii Trip on Wednesday

The No. 12 Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team will compete at the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic starting on Wednesday at the Shark Tank in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Dragons are 5-0 on the season.

MSUM will face Hawaii-Hilo at 6 p.m. Central time on Wednesday, Cal State-San Marcos at 6 p.m. Central time on Thursday and No. 6 UC-San Diego at 6 p.m. on Friday.

MSUM will meet Hawaii-Hilo for a second time with the Vulcans leading the series 1-0. The last meeting between the two teams was on Nov. 22, 2012 when Hilo won 67-66. The Dragons will face Cal State-San Marcos and UC-San Diego for the first time.

The Dragons rallied from a 15-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Northern State, 73-65 in the NSIC Opener for both teams on Nov. 21. Freshman guard Katie Tornstrom had 17 points for MSUM.

Senior forward Megan Hintz averages 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game to lead MSUM. She is shooting 66.0 percent from the field. Tornstrom averages 10.2 points per game while senior forward Madi Green averages 8.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Junior guard Sarah Jacobson averages 8.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists a contest.

MSUM is outrebounding its opponents 47.6-29.0 and outscoring its foes 75.4-51.6

Karla Nelson is in her 20th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 357-195 at the school.

About Hawaii Hilo
The Vulcans are 1-0 with a 52-42 win over Multnomah. They will face Sioux Falls prior to facing MSUM on Wednesday.  Allie Navarette had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Vulcans in the win over Multnomah. A year ago she was second-team all-region after averaging 19.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. David Kaneshiro is in his 10th season as the Hawaii-Hilo head coach with a record of 90-132 at the school.

Cal State-San Marcos
The Cougars are off to a 5-0 start on the season, highlighted by a 69-63 road win over No. 6 UC San Diego on Nov. 21. Cal State-San Marcos averages 68.0 points per game and allows 58.8. The Cougars are shooting 44.9 percent from the field. Three players are averaging in double figures, led by Dynnah Buckner at 13.6 points per game, Emma Forel at 11.6 and Akayla Hickson at 11.0. Jon'Nae Vermillion averages 9.0 rebounds per game. Renee Jimenez is in her fifth season as the CSUSM head coach with a record of 51-58.

UC-San Diego
No. 6 UC San Diego is 4-1 on the season with its only loss being a 69-63 setback at home to Cal State-San Marcos.  Julia Macabuhay averages 21.0 points per game for the Tritons while Tyla Turner averages 12.8.  Sydney Sharp leads at 5.2 rebounds per game while Macabuhay averages 5.2 assists per game.  Heidi VanDerveer is in her eighth season at UC-San Diego with a record of 167-51.
