Dragon Men Fall at Northern State, 95-64 in Road Matchup

ABERDEEN, S.D.—The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team fell to Northern State 95-64 in action Saturday night in Aberdeen, S.D.

This marked the second meeting between MSUM and Northern this season. The Dragons won that matchup at home 81-74.

MSUM falls to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Northern improves to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC.

MSUM shot 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the field and 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc compared to 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field and 52 percent (13-of-25) from three for the Wolves.

Sophomore guard Siman Sem led the Dragons in scoring with 15. Sem also led the Dragons on the glass with seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Wyatt Hanson scored 10 for the Dragons. Sophomore guard Gavin Baumgartner and freshman forward Dane Zimmer each added seven points.
Senior guard Johnny Beeninga's four points tonight puts him just two points away from hitting the 1,000-point mark for his career.

A jumper by junior forward Kaedrick Williams put the Dragons within two at 11-9 early in the first half. MSUM could not get any closer and went into the half down 39-25.

In the second half, the Dragons struggled to find an answer offensively. A dunk by Sem midway through the second half brought MSUM within 15, but that was as close as they would get. The Wolves took the win 95-64, which would also mark their largest lead of the game.

MSUM returns home on Jan. 3-4. The Dragons take on Winona State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and then host Upper Iowa the following day at 5:30 p.m.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The Dragons have now lost three straight in Aberdeen since Tanner Kretchman's 35-foot bomb as time expired lifted the Dragons to a 93-92 win on Nov. 26, 2016.
