MSUM Women Host Huskies and Bulldogs in Crucial Contests This Weekend

The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team (RV) wraps up a four-game homestand this weekend by hosting St. Cloud State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Minnesota Duluth at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dragons (19-5, 15-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) are tied atop the NSIC standings with Minnesota Duluth. UMD plays at Northern State on Friday prior to facing MSUM.

The Dragons will face St. Cloud State for a 61st time with the Huskies leading the series 33-27. MSUM won, 82-75 in St. Cloud in January and has won six straight meetings.  UMD leads the series with MSUM 52-35 and beat the Dragons 69-53 in January in Duluth.

MSUM split at home last weekend, beating Southwest Minnesota State 92-63 before falling to Sioux Falls, 77-74 on Saturday. It was the Dragons' first home loss of 2018-19. Junior forward Megan Hintz, who was named the NSIC North Player of the Week on Tuesday, averaged a double-double for the week.

Sophomore guard Kiley Borowicz averages 15.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game and also leads with 38 steals.  Junior forward Megan Hintz averages 14.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while senior guard Jacky Volkert is at 12.8 points and leads at 4.5 assists per game.  

As a team MSUM scores 68.2 points per game and shoots 40.8 percent from the field. The Dragons outrebound their foes 41.4-32.4 and allow 58.8 points per game.

Karla Nelson is in her 19th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 344-193 at the school. Nelson is the second-longest tenured head coach in the NSIC.

About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State (14-8, 11-7 NSIC) won a pair of road games last weekend, beating Wayne State 78-67 on Friday and Augustana 63-48 on Saturday. Tori Wortz averaged 17.5 points per game to lead SCSU.

Wortz averages 13.0 points per game while Mallie Doucette averages 12.6. Madelin Dammann averages 9.8. Nikki Kilboten leads at 6.7 rebounds per game while Mackenzie Uter averages 3.2 assist per game.

SCSU averages 66.3 points per game and allows 59.2. The Huskies outrebound their foes 37.7-35.6.

Lori Fish is in her 11th season as the SCSU head coach with a record of 163-133 at the school.

About Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs, who face Northern State on Friday prior to facing MSUM, enter the week on a six-game winning streak, including road wins at Augustana, 69-45 and Wayne State, 79-57 on Saturday. Sarah Grow averaged 14 points per game on the week for UMD.

Sammy Kozlowski leads UMD at 11.8 points and 3.6 assists per game while Grow averages 10.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. UMD has seven players averaging at least 5.8 points per game.

UMD averages 64.7 points per game and allows 54.0. They outrebound their foes 36.0-35.9.

Mandy Pearson is in her fourth year as the UMD head coach with a record of 53-49 at the school.
