MSUM Men's Basketball Falls to SCSU on Friday, 94-88

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team fell to St. Cloud State University on Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action by a score of 94-88.
 
MSUM falls to 18-9 overall and 12-7 in the NSIC while SCSU improves to 18-7 overall and 13-6 in the NSIC.
 
Senior forward Addison Park led the Dragons with 26 points while senior guard Travaun Coad followed with 18 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Freshman guard Siman Sem recorded 12 points and three steals. Freshman guard Bryce Irsfeld had ten points on the night. Freshman guard Gavin Baumgartner and Coad each contributed four assists.
 
The Dragons shot 54.4 percent (37-of-68) from the field compared to 60.7 percent (37-of-61) for the Huskies. The Huskies outrebounded the Dragons 32-27.
 
The Dragons struck first as a layup from Sem gave MSUM to 2-0 edge early in the first half. SCSU would see an eight-point run before a dunk from Baumgartner cut the Dragons defecit to 14-6 with 13:45 on the clock. With 9:07 in the half a layup from freshman center Jesse Bergh cut the Husky lead to 21-20. MSUM would remain within striking distance as a Baumgartner three-pointer dwindled the SCSU lead as they led 32-29 with under four minutes to go. Junior guard Johnny Beeninga sunk a jumper as the clock ran out to bring SCSU's lead to 41-39 going into the break.
 
With 17:03 on the clock in the second half, Sem nailed a three-pointer to pull within six points as SCSU led 50-44. The Huskies would go on a ten-point run before a Park layup ended the run as MSUM trailed 67-54 with 11:46 remaining. SCSU was firing on all cylinders down the stretch as they would go up 83-67 with just over five minutes to go. A three pointer from Beeninga with :17 remaining brought the score to 94-88 as time would expire.
 
MSUM is back in Nemzek Fieldhouse tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. as they face Minnesota Duluth for the final regular-season home game.
