MINOT, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team fell in a pair of non conference games on Saturday, losing to Minnesota Crookston 6-4 and Valley City State 12-5 at the Minot State Dome Tournament in Minot, N.D.
Junior third baseman
Emma Dummer was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while freshman shortstop
Kaiya Sundeen was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore center fielder
Elizabeth Johnson was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI while senior
Taylor Roddie was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Freshman right fielder
Shay Weber reached base three times — two via walk and one hit by pitch — and scored a run.
Sophomore pitcher
Becky Berth took the loss for MSUM, giving up six runs (five earned) in seven innings. She struck out five and walked three.
MSUM led 4-0 in the game. Johnson drove in a run with a bunt single in the second while Dummer added a two-run double later in the inning to push MSUM's lead to 4-0.
The Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the third and took the lead on a grand slam in the fifth.
Against Valley City State, sophomore first baseman
Ashley McCance was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Roddie was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Junior designated hitter
Payton Gaber was 1-for-3 with a triple and RBI while Johnson was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Weber added a hit and run scored.
Freshman
Anna Lang took the loss, giving up 11 runs in 2.2 innings. She struck out two and walked three. Berth finished and gave up one earned run in 3.1 innings, striking out three and walking two.
MSUM will play at the NTC College Games in Florida beginning on Friday. MSUM will face the College of St. Rose and Felician on Friday in Clermont, Fla.
