No. 25 MSUM Women Open 4-Game Homestand vs. Mustangs and Cougars

The No. 25 Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team (RV) opens a four-game homestand this week by hosting Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. The Dragons host SMSU at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and conclude the weekend against Sioux Falls at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dragons (18-4, 14-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) lead the NSIC standings by one game over Minnesota Duluth after splitting on the road last weekend, losing to Minnesota State, 76-70 before beating Concordia-St. Paul in overtime, 63-58 on Saturday.

The Dragons will face SMSU for an 86th time with the Dragons holding a 42-40 series lead.  MSUM has won seven straight meetings.  MSUM will face Sioux Falls for an 11th time and leads the series 6-4.

Sophomore guard Kiley Borowicz averages 14.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and also leads with 37 steals.  Junior forward Megan Hintz averages 13.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while senior guard Jacky Volkert is at 12.2 points and leads at 4.3 assists per game.  Junior forward Madi Green averages 5.6 rebounds per game.

As a team MSUM scores 66.8 points per game and shoots 40.1 percent from the field. The Dragons outrebound their foes 41.6-32.9 and allow 57.7 points per game.

Karla Nelson is in her 19th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 343-192 at the school. Nelson is the second-longest tenured head coach in the NSIC.

About SMSU
SMSU (11-10, 8-8 NSIC) enters the week on a three-game winning streak after beating Minnesota Crookston (78-71) and Bemidji State (72-51) at home last weekend.

Caleigh Rodning averages 13.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Mustangs while Meleah Reinhart averages 12.6 points per game. Sadie Stelter averages 10.2 points and 2.1 assists per game.  Erin Baxter averages 9.7 points per game.

As a team SMSU scores 71.4 points per game and shoots 39.2 percent from the field. The Mustangs allow 69.2 points per game and are being outrebounded 38.9-38.5.

Tom Webb is in his third season as SMSU head coach with a record of 19-55 at the school.

About Sioux Falls
The Cougars (15-7, 10-6 NSIC) have won four of their last five, including big home wins over Bemidji State (95-47) and Minnesota Crookston (80-47) last weekend.

Kaely Hummel is the only Cougar player averaging in double figures at 15.0 points per game. Mariah Szymanski is at 8.5 points and 2.6 assists per game. Anna Goodhope leads at 5.0 rebounds per game.

The Cougars score 71.5 points per game and shoot 42.2 percent from the field. They allow 57.5 points per game and outrebound their foes 37.3-36.4.

Travis Traphagen is in his 11th season as the USF head coach with a record of 209-110.
