ABERDEEN, S.D.— Junior third baseman
Emma Dummer's walkoff home run in the bottom of the 10th inning helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team defeat Upper Iowa, 10-9 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at the Presentation College Dome in Aberdeen, S.D. The win gave MSUM a split on the day as Upper Iowa prevailed in Game 1, 4-3.
MSUM is now 8-13 overall and 2-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Upper Iowa is 9-10 overall and 1-3 in the league.
"This team finds a way to battle and it has provided some great outcomes for us recently," MSUM head coach
Amanda Reckamp said. "We have played our first two NSIC opponents tough and battled from behind again tonight to earn the split."
Dummer finished 2-for-6 with a homer, a double and two RBI. Redshirt freshman outfielder
Samantha Gjerde was 2-for-6 with three RBI while senior shortstop
Taylor Roddie was 3-for-5 with two RBI along with two stolen bases. Junior first baseman
Payton Gaber was 1-for-3 with a double and RBI while
Elizabeth Johnson was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman catcher
Jordie McNeilly was 1-for-3 with two runs scored while freshman second baseman

Ashley McCance added hits.
Sophomore
Becky Berth got the win in relief, going 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs. Freshman
Anna Lang pitched 5.1 innings and gave up seven earned runs.
In a wild game that featured 26 hits and 19 runs, Dummer's heroics game with two out in the 10
th. She crushed a shot to right field over the fence to give MSUM a 10-9 win.
"Emma's walk-off home run was big time. She has been on a tear recently and she keeps coming through for us," Reckamp said.
MSUM trailed 4-0 after two innings but battled back with seven unanswered runs. Roddie had two RBI singles, including one in the fourth, while Gjerde, Dummer, Johnson and Gaber had RBI hits during that rally.
Gjerde added a two-run single in the fifth to make it 9-5, but the Peacocks scored four times in the sixth to tie the game at 9-9. The game stayed scoreless until Dummer's homer in the 10th.
In the opener, Gjerde was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Gaber was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Dummer was 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Kaiya Sundeen was 2-for-3. McCance was 2-for-4.
Berth took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, in seven innings. She struck out two and walked two.
MSUM faced a 4-1 deficit but cut into the lead. IN the fifth Gaber's RBI single scored Gjerde, who had doubled with one out. Dummer's RBI double scored Sundeen in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3. But the Dragons couldn't get the tying run across, as the Dragons left nine runners on base.
MSUM will face No. 22 Winona State on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at the Presentation Dome in Aberdeen.
