Unbeaten Dragons Head to UIndy Invitational

The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball is set to head to Indianapolis, Ind., for their second tournament of the season. .The Dragons will play in the UIndy Invitational and take on Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. Central Time to start the tournament. MSUM's second match of the day is against Northern Michigan at 3:30 p.m. CT. Day two of the tournament for the Dragons features an early morning match against Gannon at 8 a.m. CT on Sept. 14. MSUM's final game of the tournament is at 1 p.m. CT.

Rebich Investment Tournament Recap...
The Dragons are coming off a dominant 4-0 match sweep at the Rebich Investments Tournament in Edinboro, Penn., on Sept. 6-7. Sophomore hitter Sarah Petrbok was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament. Petrbok was second on the team with 33 kills, and led the team in digs with 36. Senior Kaylyn Jenkins and freshman Amber Bretwisch were also given all-tournament honors. Jenkins recorded 36 kills over the weekend and added 12 total blocks. Bretwisch started strong in her tournament debut, recording 92 set assists, 18 digs, and five service aces in four matches.

Scouting the Opposition...
Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State finished last season 19-10, and 11-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Like the Dragons, SVSU heads into the UIndy Invitational on the heels of a tournament sweep the week before. The Cardinals are led by senior hitter Sarah Tabit and junior hitter Emily Friesl. Tabit recorded 377 kills last season and earned First-Team All-GLIAC honors. Friesl was also named to the First-Team All-GLIAC. Tabit earned All-Tournament Team honors and also Tournament MVP last weekend, while Friesl also earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan finished the 2018 season 16-11 overall and 5-11 in the GLIAC. NMU enters the tournament 2-2 following the Keweenaw Volleyball Classic tournament. The Wildcats are led by senior Sarah Kuehn and sophomore Lizzy Stark. Kuehn was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team in 2018 and also led the GLIAC in blocks with 147. Last weekend, Stark notched 15 kills and 5 aces to help rally and take down Minnesota Crookston in the final round of the tournament.

Gannon
Gannon finished the 2018 season 31-3 and 17-1 in conference play. Gannon comes into the UIndy Invitational 2-2 after playing in the Ferris State Invitational. The Golden Knights are led by junior setter Ashley Beyers and sophomore Lauren Sampson. Beyers is currently ninth in all-time assists with 1,866 for Gannon University. Sampson led the team in kills last season with 342. She was also named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and selected to the All-PSAC First Team.

University of Illinois Springfield
The University of Illinois Springfield capped off the 2018 season with a 25-8 overall record and finished 15-3 in conference play. The Prairie Stars enter the UIndy Invitational with a 2-2 record. UIS is led by senior Jailyn Borum and sophomore Becca Blakeley. In 2018, Borum was 12th in the nation in total digs with 700. Blakeley was second on the team last year with 69 assists. Last weekend, Blakeley led the Prairie Stars with 29 assists, and Borum recorded a team-high eight digs to take down Southern Indiana.
