After starting the season off with two nonconference tournaments, the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team is set to kick off conference play. The Dragons will face off against Wayne State College at home on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. MSUM squares off against Augustana the next day at 2 p.m. The Dragons are coming off a 1-3 outing at the UIndy Invitational.
UIndy Invitational Recap...
The Dragons started day one of the tournament with a 1-1 split. MSUM fell to Saginaw Valley State in four sets, and then took down Northern Michigan in five sets. Day two of the tournament featured matchups against Gannon and University of Illinois Springfield. The Dragons lost both games in three sets each. In the win over Northern Michigan, senior

Scouting the Opposition...
Wayne State College
Wayne State volleyball is currently sitting undefeated with an 8-0 record. In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Wildcats climbed three spots and are currently ranked at 19. WSC competed in the Shark II Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and won all four matches in sweeps. The Wildcats are led by senior Tarrin Beller. Beller was named MVP of the Shark II Invitational and also the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week. Beller posted a .532 attack percentage in the four sweeps, and posted a weekend best 13 kills in the win over Southern New Hampshire. Freshman Kelsie Cada recorded 13 kills and 15 digs in the sweep over Southern New Hampshire. Cada also received All-Tournament Team honors.
Augustana
Augustana capped off non-conference play by sweeping the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Tournament in Kingsville, Tex. The Vikings now sit at 7-1 on the season. Freshman Maddy Guetter tied her career-high with 13 kills against St. Edwards. Guetter has hit the double-digit mark in kills in five of the seven matches played this season. Sophomore Avery Thorson recorded a double-double with 14 digs, 37 assists, and also added six kills.

Tournament Summary...
The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team went 1-3 over the weekend in Indianapolis, Ind., at the UIndy Invitational. After splitting day one of the tournament with a loss to Saginaw Valley State and a win against Northern Michigan, the Dragons dropped both games on day two, losing to both Gannon and University of Illinois-Springfield.

Sarah Petrbok led the Dragons with 17 kills. Sophomore hitter

MSUM head coach
Tammy Blake is the longest-tenured volleyball coach in the NSIC, in her 25th season. She has more wins than any head coach in MSUM history, and now is just six away from 400 for her career.
Looking Ahead...
The Dragons will play their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road games with a Sept. 27 matchup with Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. MSUM then travels to Marshall, Minn., the next day to take on Southwest Minnesota State at 2 p.m.
