The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team is headed to Edinboro, Penn., to kick-off the season at the Rebich Investments Tournament.
The Dragons first game will be played against West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. Central time. Later that night, the Dragons face off against Edinboro (Pa.) at 6 p.m. CT. Day two of the tournament starts with a morning matchup between MSUM and Glenville State College at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7. MSUM's final game of the tournament will be against Lock Haven the same day at 3 p.m.
2019 Dragons Team Preview...
The 2019 season for the Dragons will feature a group of young players, as MSUM sees eight incoming freshmen on the roster. The Dragons added a lot of local talent this year, as seven of the eight incoming freshmen are from Minnesota. Returning seniors
Taylor Thorson and
Kaylyn Jenkins look to add experience and leadership for the Dragons this season. Jenkins was second on the team last year with 221 kills on the season, and was fifth in the NSIC in blocks per set with 1.04. Thorson recorded 241 digs last season and led the team with a .957 serve receive percentage. Amanda Carlson also looks to continue making an impact for the Dragons. Carlson led the team with 274 kills and 2.91 kills per set last season. Sophomore
Katelyn Selensky appeared in 26 matches with 19 starts at setter last season.
MSUM brings in a talented freshmen group that will look to contribute as well.
Scouting the Opposition...
West Virginia Wesleyan
West Virginia Wesleyan team finished the season last year with an overall record of 7-21 and 5-11 in their conference. This upcoming season, the Bobcats are led by their 2018 season kill leader Emily Doyle. The junior recorded 191 kills last season. On the defensive side, junior Lauryn Antolock led the Bobcats with 89 blocks.
Edinboro (PA)
Edinboro posted a 14-14 record last season and placed third in the Northwest division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Fighting Scots welcome back four starters this season, led by junior hitter Cierah Jackson. Jackson led the Fighting Scots in kills last season with 323. Sophomore Alicia Eldridge returns as setter, and she led the team in assists with 916.
Glenville State College
Glenville State College finished their 2018 campaign with a record of 8-18. The Lady Pioneers are led by returning sophomore Skyler Mace. Mace led the team with 239 kills last season. Senior Chase Cooksey also returns for the 2019 season. Cooksey led the team with 25 solo blocks last season.
Lock Haven
Last season, Lock Haven finished with a 10-17 overall record, 5-13 in the PSAC. The Bald Eagles see returning seniors Kristen Nealon and Breanna McDonald. Nealon led the team in assists last season with 947. McDonald finished the year with 232 kills, which was good for third on the team.
