CROOKSTON, Minn.—The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team fell on the road Saturday night against Minnesota Crookston 94-61. The Dragons earned a weekend split after beating Bemidji State 78-75 in overtime on Friday.
MSUM falls to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Minnesota Crookston improves to 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the NSIC.
The Dragons shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field and 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from beyond the arc compared to 47.8 percent (32-of-67) from the field and 44.4 percent (8-of-18) from three for the Golden Eagles.
Sophomore guard
Bryce Irsfeld led the Dragons with 15 points. Irsfeld also pulled down six rebounds and added three assists. Freshman forward
Dane Zimmer scored 14 points and had a team-high seven rebounds. Junior forward
Joe Sevlie scored 10 points off the bench.
MSUM did not lead at any point in the game. In the first half, the Dragons found themselves down quickly. With 14:44 remaining, the Golden Eagles hit a three to put the Dragons down 15-4. The Dragons went into halftime down 13 points, 45-32.
The Dragons could not find an answer for the Golden Eagle offense in the second half. Minnesota Crookston slowly increased their lead throughout the half, UMC built a 35-point lead, their largest of the game with 0:51 remaining. The Dragons lost both matchups with the Golden Eagles this season.

Johnny Beeninga added four assists for MSUM.
MSUM travels to Wayne, Neb., on Jan. 17 to take on Wayne State at 7:30 p.m. The next day, the Dragons travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take on Augustana at 5:30 p.m. This will mark the first time the Dragons play both teams this season.
