CROOKSTON, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team outscored Minnesota Crookston 27-5 in the second quarter on its way to a 95-59 rout of the Golden Eagles Saturday in Crookston, Minn.
MSUM is now 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Minnesota Crookston fell to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in the league.
Sophomore forward
Peyton Boom led MSUM with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting while sophomore guard
Natalie Steichen had 18 points, a career-high nine assists and seven rebounds. Senior forward
Megan Hintz had 17 points while junior guard
Lauren Fech had a season-high 12 points.
MSUM shot 58 percent (40-of-69) for the game while holding the Golden Eagles to 34.5 percent shooting (20-of-58).
The Dragons were down 25-18 after one quarter but exploded with a huge second quarter to surge into a 45-30 halftime lead. Hintz had nine points for MSUM while senior forward
Madi Green, Fech and sophomore center
Nicole Brown had four points apiece during that quarter.
MSUM pushed the lead to 69-42 after three quarters. After trailing 25-18 after one quarter, the Dragons outscored UMC 77-34 over the final three quarters.
Hintz had seven rebounds for MSUM while Brown and Green each had six points.
The Dragons are on the road again next weekend, starting Friday, Jan. 17 at Wayne State (Neb.).
