#ThrowbackThursday this week is Dragon football and the 1971 team which served as a breakout season in the Ross Fortier coaching era. The team actually started out 0-1-1, losing to Concordia and then tying Minnesota Duluth 14-14. After that, the team caught fire, winning seven in a row, including all six conference games to win the first conference title under Head Coach Ross Fortier, who is in the NSIC and Dragon Sports Hall of Fames.
The team finished 7-1-1 overall and 6-0 in the NIC. Mike Langer and John Stolpman were co-MVPs in earning the Vincent Yatchak Award. Seven Dragons were All-NIC first team selections: Bob Entzion, Tim Kamholz, Dan Kostich, Langer, Wayne Price, George Spanish and John Stolpman.
