MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team battled preseason Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference favorite Minnesota State, Mankato to a tie for nearly 80 minutes but ended up falling short, 1-0 to the Mavericks in action Friday in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM had fought hard to keep the game at 0-0 but Jenny Vetter scored a goal at the 79:27 mark to break the tie, and the Mavericks held on from there.
"I'm really happy with the focus and the fight today," MSUM head coach Christie Kopietz said.
Senior goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek had eight saves in the contest for MSUM.
Junior Hallemae Nottage had one shot on goal for the Dragons.
The Dragons host Concordia-St. Paul at 1 p.m. on Sunday to wrap up the weekend.
