MOORHEAD, Minn. – Senior forward
Anna Steadland scored the winning goal early in the second half to lift the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team to its first win of the year, a 1-0 victory over Winona State. It was the Dragons' first win over Winona State since 1997, ending a 24-game losing streak to the Warriors.
Steadland scored her first goal of the year -- with an assist from sophomore midfielder
Ava Kieser -- just 1:19 in the second half to put MSUM ahead 1-0. The Dragons survived some pressure from the Warriors over the final minutes in front of their own net to pull off the win. Steadland led MSUM with two shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Kayleigh Sedlacek picked up her first shutout of the season with seven saves for the Dragons.
"After all the hard losses and tough lessons, it felt incredible to experience a team victory like that," MSUM head coach
Christie Kopietz said.
MSUM is back in action on Sunday at home against Upper Iowa. Game time is 1 p.m.
