The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team travels to Shawnee, Okla., to compete in the GAC-NSIC Challenge this weekend.
The Dragon men have two matchups at the challenge: against Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Dragons are 1-2 on the season after competing at the D2 Tipoff Classic which featured two teams ranked in the top five in the NABC D2 Preseason Coaches Poll. MSUM was receiving votes and was just outside the top 25 in the preseason poll.
Junior guard Lorenzo McGhee leads the team in points per game with 13.3, followed by freshman guard Jacob Beeninga with 12. Sophomore forward Dane Zimmer leads the team in rebounds per game with 5.7. Junior guard Gavin Baumgartner leads the team in assists per game with 2.3.
Chad Walthall is in his 12th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead with a record of 222-110.

The Savage Storm are 0-0 on the season, but lost an exhibition contest against Division I UT Arlington last week. They were picked fourth in the GAC preseason poll after going 8-11 a year ago. Senior Adam Dworsky leads the team in points per game with 14.7, followed by Senior Kellen Manek with 12.8. Dworsky also leads the team in assists per game with 6.7. Senior Kellen Manek also leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.6. Kelly Green is in his 12th season as head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The Bison, NCAA tournament qualifiers last year, posted exhibition victories over the University of Science and Arts (Oklahoma) and Arlington Baptist University. Oklahoma Baptist is the preseason favorite in the GAC after going 16-6 last season. Senior Harrison Stoddart returns as the leading scorer with 16.2 points per game. Senior Brantly Thompson returns to the team with 3.9 assists per game. Junior Nigel Wilcox leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.8. Jason Eaker is in his fifth season as head coach at Oklahoma Baptist.
