The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team opens a five-game homestand with a pair of nonconference foes this week. MSUM will face Crown College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and then will host Mayville State at 7 p.m. on Friday to conclude the weekend.

The Dragons are 2-3 after splitting a pair of games in Oklahoma at the GAC/NSIC Challenge. MSUM edged Southeastern Oklahoma State, 79-78 on Friday thanks to a game-winning bucket in the final seconds from junior guard before losing in double-overtime to Oklahoma Baptist, 90-87 on Saturday.

Three Dragons are averaging in double figures: McGhee is at 13.6 points per game as is freshman guard Jacob Beeninga. Junior guard Bryce Irsfeld, who is nearing 1,000 career points, averages 12.6 points per game. 

Sophomore forward Dane Zimmer averages 7.8 rebounds per game while junior guard Gavin Baumgartner averages 3.2 assists per game.

As a team MSUM is averaging 75.0 points per game and allowing 78.6.

Chad Walthall is in his 12th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead with  a record of 223-111.

About Crown College

The Storm are 2-2 on the season after losing to Bethel, 76-59 in a nonconference game on Saturday.  Junior guard Cade Carroll averages 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game to lead Crown while sophomore guard Micah Ladd averages 14.5 points and 4.2 assists per game. Senior forward Seth Royston averages 13.3 points per game. Crown College averages 77.0 points per game and allows 77.8. Luke Herbert, an MSUM graduate and former GA for the Dragons, is in his 12th season as the Crown head coach. 

About Mayville State

Mayville State is 3-2 entering the week; the Comets will face UMary on Tuesday. Thomas Gieske averages 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while Winder Joseph averages 11.2 points per game. Sam Grayson averages 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Darren Tighe is in his fifth season as the Mayville State head coach.
