The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team continues its five-game homestand with three games this week. MSUM hosts Northern State at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday to open NSIC play and then hosts Winona State on Friday and Sioux Falls on Saturday for a pair of nonconference contests.
The Dragons beat Crown College, 136-65 and Mayville State, 84-70 in home nonconference games last week.
Five Dragons are averaging in double figures: junior guard Gavin Baumgartner (13.6 ppg), junior guard Lorenzo McGhee (11.9 ppg), junior guard Trever Kaiser (11.7 ppg), freshman guard Jacob Beeninga (11.3 ppg) and junior guard Bryce Irsfeld (10.9 ppg).
Sophomore forward Dane Zimmer averages 8.1 rebounds per game while junior guard Gavin Baumgartner averages 3.4 assists per game. As a team MSUM is averaging 75.0 points per game and allowing 78.6.
Chad Walthall is in his 12th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead with a record of 225-111.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 4-2 after beating Black Hills State, 92-90 on Saturday. Jordan Belka, the lone returning starter for Northern, averages 15.8 points per game while Sam Masten averages 14.8 and Jackson Moni 11.3. Belka leads at 7.8 rebounds per game while Masten leads with 5.0 assists per game. Saul Phillips is in his third season as the Northern State head coach.
About Winona State
Winona State is off to a 3-0 start on the season, beating Pittsburg State, Henderson State and Viterbo. Alec Rosner leads Winona State at 17.0 points per game while Connor Drew and Drew Adams average 9.3 each. Drew leads at 6.0 rebounds per game while Devin Whitelow averages 4.0 assists per contest through three games. Todd Eisner is in his seventh season as the Winona State head coach.
