The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team will host the Northern State Wolves for their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Dragons will then travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to compete in the Dakotah Bank Classic. The Dragons will face Michigan Tech on Friday at 2 p.m. and MSU Billings on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Dragons are 0-2 on the season after losses to Rogers State (85-63) and No. 6 Central Missouri (73-53) last weekend. Junior forward Peyton Boom leads the team in scoring with 15.0 points per game, followed by freshman guard Natalie Jens with 14.5 points per game and sophomore guard Mariah McKeever at 10.5. Boom also leads the team in rebounds per game at 6.0 while junior guard Natalie Steichen leads at 3.5 assists per game.
Karla Nelson is in her 22nd year as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead with a record of 376-214.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 2-1 on the season after a 76-67 win over over South Dakota Mines on Nov. 18. Sophomore guard Rianna Fillipi and senior forward Lexi Roe lead Northern at 14.7 points per game apiece while junior forward Laurie Rogers is at 12.0. Kailee Oliverson leads at 8.0 rebounds per game while Fillipi leads at 4.8 assists per game. Paula Krueger is in her fourth season as head coach at Northern State with a record of 30-45.
About Michigan Tech
The Huskies are 3-1 on the season. They split at home last weekend, beating Minnesota Crookston 65-57 before losing to No. 18 Minnesota Duluth 67-50. Ellie Mackay averages 14.0 points per game to lead the Huskies while Clara Johnson averages 9.5. Mackay averages 5.5 rebounds per game. Sam Clayton is in her fourth year as head coach at Michigan Tech with a record of 55-29.
About MSU Billings
The Yellowjackets are 5-2 on the season after falling to Carroll College 70-53 at home. Senior Taryn Shelley leads the team in points per game with 12.1, followed by Junior Cariann Kunkel with 11.4 points per game. Shelley averages 7.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Danielle Zahn leads the team in assists per game with 4.3. Kevin Woodin is in his 18th season as head coach at MSU Billings with a record of 273-199.
