ST. PAUL, Minn. – A stout defensive effort and an efficient offense helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead football team to a 24-3 win over Concordia-St. Paul in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in St. Paul, Minn. The three points were the fewest MSUM has surrendered since 2015 when the Dragons shut out UMary 37-0.
MSUM improved to 5-5 overall and finished 3-3 in the NSIC North Division. CSP fell to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the division.
MSUM had 22 first downs to nine for CSP. The Dragons held the Golden Bears to just 179 yards of total offense.
Senior defensive end
Derek Porozinski led the defense with eight tackles, including 0.5 sacks.
Sophomore safety
Jared Kallenbach and freshman cornerback
Cody Sorenson had interceptions as the Dragons now have 17 on the season; they entered the game tied for the national D2 lead with 15 interceptions.
"I thought our defense was outstanding," MSUM head coach
Steve Laqua said. "It was good to see another couple of interceptions. The offense took care of the ball and was really efficient in the passing game. We're looking forward to being at home next week."
Freshman linebacker
Marcus Gulley had 1.5 tackles for loss and seven tackles overall.
Sophomore defensive lineman
Jackson Faller, senior defensive end
Darius Woods-Steichen and senior defensive tackle
Hunter Sall each had a sack apiece.
For the offense, freshman quarterback
Tommy Falk was solid, completing 33-of-41 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception.
Senior receiver
Grady Bresnahan caught 12 passes for 119 yards and two scores after missing the Northern game with an injury.
Ryan Bieberdorf had seven catches for 41 yards.
Freshman running back
Luke Imdieke caught six passes for 42 yards while rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown, which was the first of his college career.
MSUM led 14-0 at halftime. Imdieke's 2-yard run capped off an 11-play, 55-yard drive in the second quarter to put MSUM up 7-0. Falk connected with Bresnahan for a 26-yard touchdown with less than two minutes left in the half to make it 14-0.
CSP's lone score game with a 41-yard field goal early in the third quarter, but the Dragons answered when
Ryan Riedel hit a 30-yard field goal with 4:52 left in the third to make it 17-3.
Falk and Bresnahan connected again in the fourth quarter to help the Dragons pull away, this time from 16 yards out, to make it 24-3.
MSUM concludes the season on Nov. 13 at home against Wayne State. Kickoff is at noon at Scheels Field.
