MSUM Women to Face Marauders on Road Before Hosting Minot State

The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team, which completed nonconference play last weekend, returns to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action with a pair of games this week. The Dragons will travel to Bismarck, ND to face UMary on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Dragons will then return home to face Minot State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

The Dragons are 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the NSIC entering the week. UMary is 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the league while Minot is 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the league.

MSUM leads the all-time series with Minot 24-6; the two teams split in Moorhead last season.  The Dragons lead the all-time series with UMary 34-15, winning both meetings a year ago.

MSUM went 1-2 last week, losing to Northern State 66-48 and Michigan Tech, 65-52 before beating Montana State-Billings 69-60.

Junior forward Peyton Boom leads the team in points per game with 14.8, followed by freshman guard Natalie Jens with 12.8. Boom also leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.0. Junior Natalie Steichen leads the team in assists per game with 4.0.

Karla Nelson is in her 22nd season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

About UMary

The Marauders are 5-4 on the season and 0-1 in the NSIC after defeating Presentation College and losing to Minot State last week. Junior Megan Zander leads the team in points per game with 13.3 points per game, followed by Senior Lexie Schneider with 10.1. Schneider also leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.8. Senior guard Macy Williams leads the team in assists per game with 3.0. Rick Neumann is in his 10th season as head coach at the University of Mary.

About Minot State

The Beavers are 3-5 on the season and 1-0 in the NSIC after defeating UMary last week. Junior Amber Stevahn leads the team in points per game with 17.8, followed by Sophomore Lucy Chapman with 14.7 points per game. Junior Kate Head leads the team in assists per game with 5.9. Sophomore Natasha Elliott leads the team in rebounds per game with 5.0, followed closely by Stevahn with 4.6 rebounds per game. Mike Brandt is in his first season as head coach at Minot State University.
