CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team outscored Minnesota Crookston 34-13 over the final 12:56 of the game in a 75-60 win over the Golden Eagles in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in Crookston, Minn.
MSUM improved to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC with its second straight win while UMC fell to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Junior guard
Gavin Baumgartner had a game-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting to pace MSUM. Junior center
Jesse Bergh had 12 points and nine rebounds while freshman guard
Jacob Beeninga collected 10. Baumgartner led with four assists while Bergh had two blocks.
MSUM shot 50 percent (29-of-58) for the game compared to 45.1 percent (23-of-51) for the Golden Eagles. The Dragons had a commanding 37-23 edge in rebounds.
The Dragons led 30-29 at halftime but the Golden Eagles went on an 18-11 spurt to take a 47-41 lead with 12:56 left in the game. From there, MSUM took control, outscoring UMC 34-13 to secure the 17-point win.
The final run was keyed by Beeninga and Baumgartner, who each had nine points. Junior guard
Lorenzo McGhee and junior forward
Jaden Stanley-Williams had five each.
Stanley-Williams added nine points for MSUM while McGhee had eight.
MSUM wraps up the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule at home next weekend, starting Friday against St. Cloud State for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
