Dragon Men Host St. Cloud State and No. 17 Minnesota Duluth in Final Home Weekend

The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team will host the St. Cloud State Huskies this Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the  No.17-ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule.

The Dragons trail in the all-time series with Minnesota Duluth 83-46 although MSUM swept both meetings in Duluth a year ago. St. Cloud State leads the series with MSUM 85-49; the two teams did not meet in 2020-21 because of Covid-19 protocols.

The Dragons are 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in the NSIC after defeating Bemidji State (68-53) and Minnesota Crookston (75-60) on the road last week.

Junior guard Gavin Baumgartner leads the team in points per game with 12.0, followed by junior guard Lorenzo McGhee with 10.5. Sophomore forward Dane Zimmer leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.4. Baumgartner also leads the team in assists per game with 3.4.

Freshman guard Jacob Beeninga has 23 steals while senior forward Gatdoar Kueth has 10 blocks.

MSUM scores 79.9 points per game and allows 72.9.

Chad Walthall is in his 12th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

About St. Cloud State

The Huskies are 6-5 on the season and 3-2 in the NSIC after defeating the University of Mary and Minot State last week. Junior guard Anthony Roberts leads the team in points per game with 19.5, followed by junior guard Caleb Donaldson with 17. Senior guard Ryan Bagley leads the team in assists per game with 4.0. Roberts also leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.0. Matt Reimer is in his eighth year as head coach at St. Cloud State University.

About No. 17 Minnesota Duluth

The Bulldogs are 11-0 on the season and 5-0 in the NSIC after defeating Minot State and the University of Mary last week. Junior guard Drew Blair leads the team in points per game with 19.5, followed by sophomore forward Austin Andrews with 17.4 points per game. Junior guard Jack Middleton leads the team in assists per game with 3.1. Andrews also leads the team in rebounds per game with 9.9. Justin Wieck, a former associate head coach at MSUM under Walthall, is in his fourth season as head coach at Minnesota Duluth.
