MSUM Women Return Home to Host No. 20 Huskies, Bulldogs

The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team is home this week for a pair of crucial Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests. MSUM hosts St. Cloud State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and then hosts Minnesota Duluth at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dragons are 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC. They lost to Bemidji State, 69-68 and beat Minnesota Crookston, 75-62 on Saturday on the road.  Junior forward Peyton Boom averaged 16.0 points per game to lead MSUM.

MSUM did not face St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth last season as games were cancelled because of Covid-19 protocols. The Dragons trail the all-time series with SCSU 35-28 and trail the all-time series with Minnesota Duluth 54-37.

Junior forward Peyton Boom leads the team in points per game with 14.8, followed by freshman guard Natalie Jens with 11.9.  Jens had a career-high 16 points in the Bemidji State game.

Junior guard Natalie Steichen leads the team in assists per game with 4.0 and also leads in rebounding at 6.0. Boom averages 5.9 rebounds per game.

Karla Nelson is in her 22nd season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.   She is the second-longest tenured women's coach in the NSIC.

About No. 20 St. Cloud State

The Huskies are 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in the NSIC after defeating Minot State and the University of Mary last week. Junior guard Brehna Evans leads the team in points per game with 13.0, followed closely by senior guard Tori Wortz with 12.9 points per game. Evans also leads the team in assists per game with 3.1. Lori Fish is in her 13th season as head coach at St. Cloud State University.

About Minnesota Duluth

The Bulldogs, the preseason NSIC favorites, are 6-3 on the season and 4-1 in the NSIC after defeating Minot State and the University of Mary last week. Senior Brooke Olson leads the team in points per game with 18.6. Senior Maesyn Thiesen leads the team in assists per game with 5.2. Senior forward Sarah Grow leads the team in rebounds per game with 5.6. Mandy Pearson is in her seventh year as head coach at Minnesota Duluth.
